View & Edit Word

Tested and confirmed working · July 13, 2026

Open, edit, and save a .docx file's text in your browser — no Word install needed. Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Supports .docx, .doc

Works with modern .docx files. Older .doc files (pre-2007 Word) use a legacy binary format a browser can't read — save it as .docx first (File → Save As → Word Document) and it'll open here. Headings (levels 1–3), ordered and nested lists, hyperlinks, text color, and tables — including merged header cells, real background shading, borders that show only where the source actually has them, and real column widths rather than always stretched to fill the page — all display correctly and survive editing and saving. A floating image wraps body text around it the way the original does, and a real multi-column section splits into side-by-side columns. Once loaded, click into the document to edit the text directly — add, change, or delete paragraphs, list items, table cell text, and images. There's no formatting toolbar here, and no way to add a brand-new heading or table.

How it works

  1. Upload the .docx file you want to view or edit.
  2. Read and edit the text directly in your browser.
  3. Save your changes and download the updated .docx.
  4. Formatting like bold text, headings, and lists render properly as you read and edit — not as a plain-text dump.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Microsoft Word installed?

No, everything happens in your browser.

Will my edits be saved as a proper .docx?

Yes, the download is a standard .docx file.

Is my document uploaded to a server?

No, viewing and editing happen locally in your browser.

Does real formatting show up, or just plain text?

Real formatting — bold, headings, and structure render as they would in Word, not as a plain-text dump.

Can I save the file without making any changes?

Yes, open a document and save it back out any time, even unchanged.

Your files are never uploaded. Gotool.xyz runs entirely as JavaScript in your browser. Your files are processed in memory and never touch a server — nothing to breach, nothing to clean up. Close the tab and it's like it never happened. The only thing we count is which tool ran (just the name, e.g. "merge") so we know what people find useful — never your file, its name, its size, or anything in it.
